Foods To Boost Energy And Reduce Fatigue

 

The internet and social media are filled with an array of foods deemed as superfoods. Could it be that particular foods enable us to become superheroes? If only it was as simple as this, I would be so rich. Eating well is not complicated, but we seem to be continuously bombarded with so much information from the media and companies, which comes down to very good marketing. They get paid very well to convince you to buy.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that any single food can provide an energy boost. Most people don’t need to take vitamin supplements to improve their energy levels. Generally, eating a healthy and varied intake, provides us with all the vitamins and minerals needed for good nutrition and energy.

On a daily basis make sure to eat from each of these food groups:

  • Fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables

  • Wholegrains and complex carbohydrates - wholegrain bread and pasta, oats, brown rice, potatoes, corn, fruit, legumes

  • Healthy fats – extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds, chia seeds and omega 3 fats found in fatty fish

  • Protein – salmon, tuna, eggs, milk, yoghurt, cheese, tofu, tempeh, dried beans, chickpeas, lentils

  • Iron rich foods – red meat, chicken, fish, eggs, dried beans, chickpeas, lentils, broccoli, spinach, silverbeet, nuts and nut pastes, dried fruit

  • Vitamin B12 rich foods - meat, liver and shellfish, milk products and eggs

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day and aim for pale yellow urine colour throughout the day. I see many clients who are unable to tell me the colour of their urine. 

A combination of these foods from each food group, eaten daily, will work together to provide your body with nourishment and energy to tackle your busy lifestyle.
